NHS is a national organization for students who are outstanding in scholarship, character, service, and leadership. Students that are eligible should consider applying because this is an organization that colleges and scholarship committees recognize as a prestigious organization for outstanding students. To be eligible to apply for membership into NHS, a sophomore or junior must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5. Those students then have to prove the completion of a minimum of 30 hours of service and also display an attitude of leadership by membership in school clubs, organizations, athletics, or employment. The purpose of our chapter of the National Honor Society is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in students here at Anna Jonesboro High School. Throughout the year NHS does random acts of kindness for the community. They also collect coats and funds for the New Coats, New Hope Campaign through Halloween events for the school and community. NHS provides service to the school by providing a teacher taco luncheon, ushering for the school musical, graduation, and baccalaureate, and giving tours at Freshman Fair. They also host the Spring Fling Dance to raise funds to provide Easter Baskets for Bethany Village. In addition, they have been sponsoring Pajama Mondays to raise funds for a scholarship. The NHS also hosts the Spring Fling dance to raise money for projects throughout the year. The sponsor is Mrs. Frownfelter.
